Basketball Recap: Mccool Junction Comes Up Short on the Road Against Cross County

McCool Junction kicked off their season on the road on Thursday and hit a couple of potholes. They took a 58-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cross County Cougars. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Mustangs of the 59-50 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January.

Despite the defeat, McCool Junction saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jaxon McDonald went 9-for-16 en route to 22 points and three steals. Carson McDonald was another key player, putting up 17 points and eight boards.

Benson Seim was a one-man wrecking crew For Cross County. as he almost dropped a double-double with 21 points and nine rebounds. Those nine boards gave Seim a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sawyer Anderson, who shot 43% from the field on his way to 13 points and seven rebounds.

Coming up, McCool Junction will square off against High Plains at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Cross County, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 55-42 win against Shelby-Rising City on the 5th.
