Basketball Recap: Lexi Martinez Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Forest Lake Christian

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Vacaville Christian walked away with it. They managed a 51-46 win over Forest Lake Christian on Thursday. This was payback for Vacaville Christian, who suffered a 34-30 loss the last time these two teams met.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Vacaville Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lexi Martinez, who posted ten points along with eight rebounds and eight steals. Martinez has become a key player for Vacaville Christian: the team is 15-2 when she posts at least three steals, but 2-9 otherwise. Elena Vizcay was another key player, putting up 13 points in addition to six assists and five boards.

Despite the defeat, Forest Lake Christian saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kenzie Harrington dropped a triple-double with 18 points, 20 rebounds, and ten blocks. Harrington has been hot for a while, having posted ten or more boards the last 21 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Bell, who earned 12 points.

Vacaville Christian's record is now 17-11. As for Forest Lake Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 16-10.

Coming up, Vacaville Christian will face off against Faith Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Faith Christian will roll in looking for their 17th straight victory, something Vacaville Christian surely won't give up without a fight. Forest Lake Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
