Basketball Game Preview: San Diego Cavers vs. Hoover Cardinals

The San Diego Cavers are taking a road trip to square off against the Hoover Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. San Diego will be strutting in after a win while Hoover will be coming in after a defeat.

San Diego is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They breezed by Academy of Our Lady of Peace to the tune of 65-24 on Tuesday. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Cavers had established a 32 point advantage.

Mackenzie Nitzel was a one-woman wrecking crew for San Diego as she dropped a triple-double on 23 points, 20 boards, and ten blocks. The dominant performance gave Nitzel a new career-high in points. Marilyn Daniel was another key player, putting up eight points and ten rebounds.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Hoover faced off against Escondido Charter on Wednesday. Hoover came up short against Escondido Charter, falling 70-44. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Cardinals have suffered since December 5, 2024.

San Diego's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-11. As for Hoover, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-8 record this season.

San Diego strolled past Hoover when the teams last played back in February of 2022 by a score of 44-30. The rematch might be a little tougher for San Diego since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
