Football Game Preview: Maxwell Panthers vs. Portola Tigers + How To Watch

The Maxwell Panthers will take on the Portola Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Maxwell's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points in their last four matchups.

Maxwell lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Los Molinos, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's game. The Panthers took their contest on Friday with ease, bagging a 49-7 win over the Bulldogs. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 40-0.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Maxwell to victory, but perhaps none more so than Luke Pearson, who picked up 129 receiving yards and a pair of TDs, and also rushed for 31 yards and one touchdown. Pearson didn't just play on offense: he also made eight total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defended two passes. Levi Velasquez was another key signal caller, throwing for 213 yards and three TDs on only 18 passes.

The home team had come away the winner the last four times Portola and Biggs had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Tigers had to suffer through a 42-8 loss at the hands of the Wolverines. Tigers fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Wolverines since Friday.

Maxwell pushed their record up to 5-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 8.4 points on average over those games. As for Portola, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.

Maxwell beat Portola 27-20 in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
