Stanton is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Thursday. They are taking a road trip to square off against the Norfolk Catholic Knights. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Stanton will bounce into Thursday's game after beating West Point-Beemer, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Mustangs snuck past the Cadets with a 43-37 victory on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.

Stanton's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Karsyn Dusatko, who posted eight points in addition to 11 rebounds and six steals, and Skyler Siebrandt, who shot 71% from the field to rack up 11 points. Those eight points gave Dusatko a new career-high. Bergan Pohlman was another key player, putting up eight points and four steals.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Norfolk Catholic, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They pulled ahead with a 41-40 photo finish over Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard] on Tuesday. The Knights haven't had any issues with the Bobcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Norfolk Catholic's win came from a few key players Stanton will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Sidonia Wattier, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and ten boards. Another player making a difference was Ava Wemhoff, who put up seven points and six steals.
Norfolk Catholic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in six consecutive matchups dating back to last season.
Norfolk Catholic now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Stanton, they now also have a winning record of 2-1.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Stanton has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 24.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Norfolk Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging 28.3 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Stanton came out on top in a nail-biter against Norfolk Catholic in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, sneaking past 41-39. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
