Football Recap: Ponderosa Skates Past Rio Americano with Ease

Ponderosa got themselves on the board against Rio Americano on Monday, but Rio Americano never followed suit. They blew past the Raiders 46-0. Given the Bruins' advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 97th, while the Raiders are ranked 325th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Ponderosa didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Cheyenne Jones and Madalyn Meier. Meier is becoming a predictor of Ponderosa's success: when she posts at least one interception the team is undefeated (and 3-5 when she doesn't). Jones got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Ponderosa is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 10.6 points on average over those games. As for Rio Americano, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season.

Ponderosa will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Vista del Lago at 7:15 p.m. The Eagles' defense has only allowed 7.2 points per game this season, so the Bruins' offense will have their work cut out for them. Rio Americano has already played their next match (against Inderkum), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
