Softball Recap: Thomas Jefferson Takes a Loss

Thomas Jefferson extended their losing streak to 12 on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-12. They came up short against the Denver East Angels, falling 16-3. That's two games in a row now that the Spartans have lost by exactly 13 runs.

Marnee Berry made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophie Hockett, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs.

As for Denver East, the victory snapped their losing streak at five games and leaves them with a 5-8 record. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their two-run performance the matchup before.

On Denver East's side, Emmy Lang and Reese Larson did most of the damage at the plate: Lang went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base, while Larson went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Those three RBI gave Larson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Zellie Frye, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Thomas Jefferson will face off against Rangeview at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Denver East, they will challenge Adams City at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17.17 runs per game on average), something the Angels will no doubt try to take advantage of.
