Newnan has gone a perfect 8-0 against Langston Hughes recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Panthers at 5:30 p.m. Newnan is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Cougars on Monday. Newnan lost 14-6 to Alexander.
Khloe Walker made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run. Lauren Watson also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, Langston Hughes made easy work of Morrow on Thursday and carried off an 18-4 win. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won six matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.
Brandi Walter was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in August.
In other batting news, Langston Hughes got a massive performance out of Kree Spear, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with five stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That's the most runs Spear has posted since back in August. The team also got some help courtesy of Jada Victor, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles.
Langston Hughes always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .657. They are 7-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Langston Hughes is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Newnan, their loss dropped their record down to 10-15.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Newnan has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .483. However, it's not like Langston Hughes struggles in that department as they've averaged .510. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Newnan's way against Langston Hughes when the teams last played on September 4th, as Newnan made off with a 14-2 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
