Legend is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. Everything went their way against Columbine as they made off with an 8-1 victory. Winning may never get old, but the Titans sure are getting used to it with their seventh in a row.
Maddie Kessel spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits.
At the plate, Caylee Humphrey was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Lucy Thompson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Legend kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Cherokee Trail faced Fort Collins in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Cougars never let the Lambkins get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Lambkins: they've now won three in a row.
Emma Rice made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Rice was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Isabelle Becker and Sydney Cobb did most of the damage at the plate: Becker went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Cobb went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Tayah Burton, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Legend's record is now 22-5. As for Cherokee Trail, their record now sits at 22-4.
Saturday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Legend has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .512. However, it's not like Cherokee Trail struggles in that department as they've averaged .478. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Legend took their win against Cherokee Trail in their previous meeting back in September by a conclusive 13-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Titans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
