Baseball Game Preview: Robinson Maroons vs. Effingham Flaming Hearts

The Robinson Maroons will take on the Effingham Flaming Hearts at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Thursday, Robinson beat Flora 6-1.

Gunner Hoalt spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits. Robinson is 4-2 when Hoalt allows two or fewer earned runs, but 8-12 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Brody Baker was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Braylon Murray, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

Robinson hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are 4-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Effingham and St. Anthony meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Flaming Hearts sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over the Bulldogs.

Effingham is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Robinson, their victory bumped their record up to 12-14.
