Softball Preview: St. Clair Bulldogs vs. Cuba Wildcats
The St. Clair Bulldogs are taking a road trip to square off against the Cuba Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. St. Clair is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak.
St. Pius X hit St. Clair with a 12-run fifth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Bulldogs came up short against the Lancers, falling 17-2.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last contest, Cuba made sure to put some runs up on the board against Richland on Tuesday. The Wildcats were the clear victors by a 15-9 margin over the Bears. Considering the Wildcats' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Cuba got a massive performance out of Jerri Forester, who went 4-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave Forester a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabby Garms, who went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases and three runs.
Cuba was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .578. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
St. Clair's defeat dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Cuba, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-8.
St. Clair came up short against Cuba in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, falling 11-8. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
