Basketball Recap: Socorro Comes Up Short

Socorro lost against Coronado back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Socorro Bulldogs came up short against the Coronado Thunderbirds, falling 57-36. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1037th, while the Thunderbirds are ranked 181st).

When it comes to explaining why Socorro lost, don't look at Isaias Morales. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Danny Delgado, who posted nine points.

Coronado was led to victory by Roberto Lopez and Jazhiel Herrera. Lopez went 6 of 13 on his way to 13 points and eight rebounds, while Herrera went 5 of 6 on his way to 12 points and five rebounds. The dominant performance gave Lopez a new career-high in boards. Another player making a difference was Jordan Sheffield, who put up eight points and five rebounds.

Socorro has been struggling recently as they've lost 12 of their last 13 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-17 record this season. As for Coronado, they pushed their record up to 16-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home.

Socorro didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 51-34 defeat against Montwood on the 10th. As for Coronado, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 49-47 loss against Eastlake on the 10th.
