Basketball Recap: Marina Takes a Loss

Marina entered their match against Oakwood on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Marina Mariners took a blow against the Oakwood Hawks, falling 45-15. The contest marked the Mariners' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Despite the defeat, Marina saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Shekinah Williams posted 16 points in addition to six steals and five rebounds. Williams is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in each of the last ten games she's played. Another player making a difference was Mia Martin, who earned eight points along with 11 boards and four steals.

Marina's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 9-1 and their overall record down to 14-3. As for Oakwood, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season.
