Softball Recap: Salem Comes Up Short

Salem extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to eight on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-5. They lost 23-10 to Drew Charter. The Seminoles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Drew Charter apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

Anya Hoard stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Isyss Rogers also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

As for Drew Charter, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 20.7 runs over those games.

On Drew Charter's side, they let Bernice Christy and Jayla Martin run wild. Christy went 2-for-4 with one home run and one triple, while Martin got on base in four of her six plate appearances with one triple and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiyanna Webb, who got on base in four of her seven plate appearances with one triple.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Salem will take on Coretta Scott King YWLA at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Soaring Eagle have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14 runs per game on average), something the Seminoles will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Drew Charter, they are taking a road trip to face off against Miller Grove at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
