Basketball Recap: Valley's Luck Changes for the Better on Monday

Valley can finally bid farewell to their 17-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to their game on Monday. They enjoyed a cozy 41-27 win over the Golden Sierra Grizzlies. The Vikings' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Valley was led to victory by Katalina Gutierrez and India Williams. Gutierrez dropped a double-double on ten points and 14 boards, while Williams dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Gutierrez a new career-high in rebounds.

Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Despite the defeat, Golden Sierra saw an underclassman step up: freshman Mary Nicole Turner dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Those 16 points set a new season-high mark for Turner. Carly Sherman was another key player, putting up six points and five steals.

Valley's victory ended an eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-10. As for Golden Sierra, they now have a losing record at 4-5.

Valley will take on Florin at 6:00 p.m. on January 8th. As for Golden Sierra, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 71-14 win against Highlands on the 3rd.
