Basketball Game Preview: Twin Valley Raiders vs. Wyomissing Spartans

The Twin Valley Raiders will take on the Wyomissing Spartans at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a five-game winning streak alive.

While Twin Valley didn't have the best season last year (they finished 1-10), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They walked away with a 38-26 win over Warwick two weeks ago. The 38-point effort marked the Raiders' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Twin Valley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ellie Kaplan led the charge by putting up 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hailey Kilgore, who posted eight points.

Meanwhile, Wyomissing hadn't done well against Berks Catholic recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Wyomissing narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Berks Catholic 37-34. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 52nd, while the Saints are ranked 217th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Wyomissing's win was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-1. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.5 points per game. As for Twin Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 8-1.

Twin Valley came out on top in a nail-biter against Wyomissing in their previous matchup back in December of 2021, sneaking past 32-29. Will Twin Valley repeat their success, or does Wyomissing have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
