Preview: California Condors vs. El Rancho Dons
California is 8-2 against El Rancho since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The California Condors will look to defend their home court against the El Rancho Dons at 5:15 p.m. The timing is sure in California's favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home while El Rancho has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
California's game on Wednesday was all tied up 24-24 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They fell to La Serna 50-45. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as California came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 240th, while La Serna is ranked 594th).
Meanwhile, El Rancho was just a bucket shy of victory on Wednesday and fell 43-42 to Santa Fe.
Despite the loss, El Rancho saw an underclassman step up: Emery Riker dropped a double-double on 15 points and 13 rebounds. That was a full 35.7% of El Rancho's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Jaylene Sicairos, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and three steals.
California's defeat dropped their record down to 12-8. As for El Rancho, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-10 record this season.
Everything came up roses for California against El Rancho when the teams last played on January 3rd as the team secured a 61-32 victory. Does California have another victory up their sleeve, or will El Rancho turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
