Softball Recap: Pace Extends Winning Streak to Six

The matchup between Pace and Edcouch-Elsa on Tuesday hardly resembled the 2-1 effort from their previous meeting. The Vikings blew past the Yellowjackets 13-7. Winning may never get old, but the Vikings sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.

Nubia Alvarado made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up six earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, firing off two home runs, seven RBI, and four runs while going 4-for-5. Those home runs marked the first that she has launched this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maya Galvan, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Sofia Alejandro was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Pace lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their home run total in three consecutive matchups.

Pace's victory bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Edcouch-Elsa, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 7-4 record.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Pace is set to take on their familiar foe Lopez at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Edcouch-Elsa will challenge rival Weslaco East at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
