Basketball Game Preview: Center Cougars vs. Wheatland Pirates

The Center Cougars will face off against the Wheatland Pirates at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Center will be strutting in after a win while Wheatland will be coming in after a loss.

Having struggled with five defeats in a row, Center turned things around against Cordova last Monday. They managed a 35-31 victory over the Lancers.

Reniaya Applin was a one-woman wrecking crew for Center as she went 9 for 19 on her way to 20 points in addition to seven blocks and four steals. With that strong performance, Applin is now averaging an impressive 2.1 blocks per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabella Kossov, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten boards.

Meanwhile, Wheatland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. The matchup between them and Gridley didn't end well, with Wheatland falling 48-30.

Wheatland's defeat dropped their record down to 0-9. As for Center, their win bumped their record up to 2-13.

Center couldn't quite finish off Wheatland in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 and fell 47-45. Can Center avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
