Football Recap: Nixon Starts off Right with Win over Ray

Nixon had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They skirted past the Ray Texans 17-14. That's more bragging rights for the Mustangs, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Nixon's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Emiliano Hernandez, who rushed for 117 yards. Those 117 rushing yards gave Hernandez a new career-high. Hugo Ramos did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 84 receiving yards.

Tripp Thompson and Brian McCullum certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Thompson rushed for 121 yards on only ten carries, while McCullum rushed for 138 yards and one TD.

Nixon wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 14-10 defeat against Laredo LBJ on the 4th. As for Ray, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 56-46 loss against Tuloso-Midway on the 5th.
