Football Recap: Nixon Starts Season with Win Against Ray

Nixon had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 17-14 win over the Ray Texans. The Mustangs have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Texans, too.

Nixon's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Emiliano Hernandez, who rushed for 117 yards. Those 117 rushing yards gave Hernandez a new career-high. Nixon also got a significant boost from Ethan Salinas, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 80 yards.

Despite the defeat, Ray had strong showings from Tripp Thompson, who rushed for 121 yards on only ten carries, and Brian McCullum, who rushed for 138 yards and one touchdown.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Nixon will look to takes advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they takes on Laredo LBJ at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Ray, they will take on Tuloso-Midway at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
