Basketball Game Preview: Walden Grove Red Wolves vs. Salpointe Catholic Lancers

Walden Grove is 1-6 against Salpointe Catholic since January of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Walden Grove Red Wolves will look to defend their home court against the Salpointe Catholic Lancers at 7:00 p.m.

Walden Grove is headed into Tuesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Thursday. They took a 47-33 bruising from Mica Mountain. While losing is never fun, the Red Wolves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 97th, while the Thunderbolts are ranked 31st).

Meanwhile, Salpointe Catholic came tearing into Friday's match with ten straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28.2 points) and they left with even more momentum. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Cougars 67-28. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 41-10.

Walden Grove better keep an eye on Sidney Anderson. She was instrumental in Salpointe Catholic's win, going 9 for 13 en route to 25 points. What's more, Anderson also posted a 69% field goal percentage, which is the highest she's posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Hannah Williams, who went 5 of 10 on her way to 13 points.

Salpointe Catholic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in seven consecutive contests.

Salpointe Catholic's victory was their ninth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 23-4. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.2 points over those games. As for Walden Grove, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-12.

Walden Grove took a serious blow against Salpointe Catholic in their previous meeting two weeks ago, falling 55-25. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Anderson, who went 9 for 16 to rack up 21 points and five rebounds.
