Softball Recap: Wayne Comes Up Short

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Thursday as neither Wayne nor Guardian Angels Central Catholic made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Blue Devils fell just short of the Bluejays by a score of 3-1. The Blue Devils were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bluejays earlier this season, when they won 3-2.

Mackenzie Nissen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks.

This is the second loss in a row for Wayne and nudges their season record down to 19-10. Even worse, they were so close both times: the defeats came by an average of only 1.5 runs. As for Guardian Angels Central Catholic, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 17-12.

Coming up, Wayne will square off against Ashland-Greenwood at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Bluejays' pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so the Blue Devils' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Guardian Angels Central Catholic has already played their next matchup (against Centennial), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
