Softball Recap: Hardaway Starts Season with Win Against Manchester

Hardaway had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They were the clear victors by an 18-8 margin over the Manchester Blue Devils on Monday. The game was the first time the Hawks have beaten the Blue Devils on their field since August 30, 2021.

Naryah Wilson made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off only two hits. Wilson was even better at the plate, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with five stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI.

In other batting news, Neeraja Thomas was a standout: she got on base in all five of her plate appearances with six stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in September of 2024. Another player making a difference was Shelby Huff, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with five stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI.

Hardaway always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .659. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Manchester only posted an OBP of .333.

Manchester is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hardaway will square off against Calvary Christian at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Knights will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Hawks surely won't give up without a fight. As for Manchester, they will venture away from home to take on Shaw at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
