Softball Recap: Eugene Takes a Loss

Eugene had lost four straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped down to 4-7 to make it five. They fell just short of the Linn Wildcats by a score of 3-2. The Eagles were not able to make up for their defeat to the Wildcats from their previous meeting back in October of 2024.

As for Linn, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games.

For Linn's part, Sophia Voss spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up six Ks. Voss has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Linn saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Heslie Higginbotham, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

Coming up, Eugene will head out on the road to take on Vienna at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Linn, they will host Southern Boone at 9:30 a.m. on Friday.
