Football Recap: Derek Stevenson Key Part of Team Effort in Panthers Win + How To Watch

Paetow's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 44-30 win over the Katy Taylor Mustangs. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 351st, while the Mustangs are ranked 738th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Paetow's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Derek Stevenson, who picked up 139 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Stevenson has become a key player for the Panthers: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two receiving touchdowns, but 2-3 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Jovan Rodriguez, who rushed for 155 yards and one score.

Paetow's run defense was locked in: Katy Taylor could only muster 2.6 yards per carry. The team can thank Jaeden Spelmon for the heroic effort on defense: he. Paetow's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 4.8.

Paetow didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off six passes before the game was over. Player #0 led the group effort, picking up three of those interceptions all by himself. Spelmon is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in each of the last 13 games he's played dating back to last season. Player #0 got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Katy Taylor lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Joshua Jacobson, who picked up 134 receiving yards and one TD. He was no stranger to the big play, lighting up the secondary with a catch that went for 62 yards. Garrett Barham was another key player, having thrown for 280 yards and onetouchdown.

Paetow now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Katy Taylor, they are on a 15-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.
