Lutheran is 6-1 against Palmer Ridge since September of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Lions will look to defend their home field against the Bears at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Lutheran is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Colorado's top teams: Air Academy, who was ranked 24th at the time (Lutheran was ranked seventh). The Lions' pitchers stepped up to hand the Kadets a 10-0 shutout on Wednesday. Winning may never get old, but the Lions sure are getting used to it with their tenth in a row.
Annie Schroeder looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Addie Brightman was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Khloe Kendrick, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one triple.
Lutheran was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Palmer Ridge came out on top against Cheyenne Mountain on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run sixth inning. The Bears blew past the Red-Tailed Hawks 12-2. The Bears haven't had any issues with the Red-Tailed Hawks recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Pam Boyarko was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed six innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Boyarko was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Corinna Arellano, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Madilyn Westmoreland, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Lutheran's win bumped their record up to 18-4. As for Palmer Ridge, their victory bumped their record up to 18-3.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lutheran hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .384. However, it's not like Palmer Ridge struggles in that department as they've averaged .412. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
