Baseball Recap: Plano Gets the Win

After only one run in their last contest, Plano made sure to put some runs up on the board against Streator on Thursday. The Reapers walked away with a 12-9 victory over the Bulldogs. The game was the first time the Reapers have beaten the Bulldogs on their field since April 15, 2016.

Nathan Tunt looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He is becoming a predictor of Plano's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 3-1-1 (and 11-17 when he doesn't).

At the plate, Plano let Julian Gates and Braylon Schmidt run wild. Gates got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Schmidt went 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Gates has become a key player for Plano: the team is 7-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 7-16-1 otherwise. Terrance Mallory Jr. also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Plano kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 7-3 when they post 11 or more hits.

The win made it two in a row for Plano and bumps their season record up to 14-18-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games. As for Streator, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 12 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-19-1 record this season.

Plano will challenge Mendota at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Reapers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Trojans have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season. As for Streator, they will face off against Dwight at 10:00 a.m. on Monday.
