Basketball Recap: Perkins County Triumphs

Maxwell came into Tuesday's contest looking for another win against Perkins County, but Madison Potts wouldn't allow it. The Plainsmen managed a 46-42 victory over the Wildcats on Tuesday with plenty of help from Potts, who shot 40% from the field to rack up 20 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Perkins County's points.

Another player making a difference was Addison York, who posted six points and 12 boards. She is becoming a predictor of Perkins County's success: when she posts at least ten rebounds the team is 7-3 (and 3-4 when she doesn't).

When it comes to explaining why Maxwell lost, don't look at Kristyn Cheek. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double with 19 points and 15 boards. With that strong performance, Cheek is now averaging an impressive 8.1 rebounds per game. Emory Christensen was another key player, dropping a double-double with 11 points and 12 boards.

Perkins County's win bumped their record up to 10-7. As for Maxwell, they dropped their record down to 6-12 with the loss, which was their fifth straight at home.

Looking ahead, Perkins County will square off against Southwest at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Plainsmen will be up against the Roughriders' rather soft defense (which has allowed 50.47 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Maxwell, they will challenge Wallace at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
