Softball Recap: Northeast Takes a Loss

Northeast entered their contest against Harrisburg on Thursday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Bearcats took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bulldogs. The Bearcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Olivia Cross spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and six unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kylee Dodge was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Jaycee David, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Northeast's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 14-5. As for Harrisburg, their win was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-5.

Coming up, Northeast will square off against South Shelby at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Harrisburg, they will venture away from home to square off against North Shelby at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
