Basketball Game Preview: Soquel Knights vs. Santa Cruz Cardinals

Soquel hasn't had much luck against Santa Cruz recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Soquel Knights will take on the Santa Cruz Cardinals at 5:30 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with four defeats in a row, Soquel turned things around against San Lorenzo Valley on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Cougars by a score of 34-27.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Santa Cruz). They blew past Harbor, posting a 70-10 win. The Cardinals have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 20 points or more this season.

Santa Cruz is also on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.2 points per game. As for Soquel, their victory ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-5.

Soquel took a serious blow against Santa Cruz in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, falling 62-23. Can Soquel avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
