Basketball Recap: Ferndale Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Ferndale can now relate to. They fell 59-46 to the Arcata Tigers on Thursday. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 340th, while the Tigers are ranked 82nd).

Despite the loss, Ferndale still got an impressive performance from Michaela Ellsmore, who posted 21 points. That's the most points Ellsmore has posted since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Tinnley Pidgeon, who scored ten points.

Arcata's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Addison Wingate led the charge by dropping a double-double with 15 points and 12 boards. Wingate is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last five games she's played. Tae Wolford was another key player, putting up 17 points and seven rebounds.

Ferndale's loss dropped their record down to 14-9. As for Arcata, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-6.

Ferndale does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Arcata, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 46-44 defeat against St. Bernard's on the 14th.
