Basketball Game Preview: James Logan Colts vs. Monte Vista Mustangs

James Logan is 0-3 against Monte Vista since February of 2022 but things could change on Tuesday. It'll be an old-fashioned rodeo when the Colts face off against the Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. James Logan is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.

Last Friday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, James Logan beat Mission San Jose 52-48.

James Logan got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Iwalani Lealao out in front who posted 12 points in addition to eight steals and seven assists. Lealao is becoming a predictor of James Logan's success: when she posts at least three steals the team is 12-3 (and 3-6 when she doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Mauriah Mchenry, who went 7-for-15 en route to 19 points.

James Logan smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 13 consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Monte Vista came up short against Dougherty Valley on Tuesday and fell 60-47.

James Logan will need to focus on slowing down Naliyah Sefidi, one of several Monte Vista players who made an impact when they last played. She earned 17 points along with six boards and three steals. Sefidi is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last nine games she's played. Juliette Leonard was another key player, going 6-for-14 on her way to 16 points and three steals.

James Logan's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-9. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.8 points over those games. As for Monte Vista, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-15.

James Logan came up short against Monte Vista when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 55-50. Can James Logan avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
