Gridley extended their winning streak to three on Tuesday, bumping them up to 17-7. Everything went their way against the Corning Cardinals as they made off with a 14-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won 11 contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Kaydenze Pruitt was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Pruitt was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Alexis Alcantar and Delanie Cloyd did most of the damage at the plate: Alcantar got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Cloyd went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave Alcantar a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Avery Mendenhall, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Gridley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .586. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Corning only posted an OBP of .286.
As for Corning, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-16 record this season. Having soared to a lofty 23 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.
On Corning's side, they saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Makayla Lodin, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Coming up, Gridley will take on Live Oak at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs will need to watch out since the Lions have now posted at least ten runs in their last three matchups. As for Corning, they will face off against Pleasant Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cardinals' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Vikings have averaged an impressive 7.9 runs per game this season.
