Basketball Recap: Eastlake Comes Up Short

Eastlake was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 44-42 heartbreaker at the hands of the Bonita Vista Barons. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Titans have suffered since January 26, 2024.

Despite the loss, Eastlake saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ava Ellorin went 6 of 13 en route to 17 points along with six boards and three steals. Those 17 points set a new season-high mark for Ellorin. The team also got some help courtesy of Mikaela Nafarrete, who posted seven points and five steals.

Even though they lost, Eastlake smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Bonita Vista to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jaidyn Lee, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 14 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Shea Gonzalez, who had 11 points.

Eastlake's defeat dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Bonita Vista, with the victory, they broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-9.

Eastlake wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 71-28 loss against Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary on the 26th. As for Bonita Vista, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 66-34 win against Pacific Ridge on the 2nd.
