Basketball Recap: Stevenson Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Peyton Sanchez and Kobie Crutcher

If Stevenson was riding high fresh off their 57-34 takedown of North Salinas last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Stevenson Pirates took a 45-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pacific Grove Breakers on Wednesday. The Pirates haven't had much luck with the Breakers recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Stevenson's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Kobie Crutcher, who posted 21 points, and Peyton Sanchez, who dropped a double-double with ten points and 12 boards.

Even though they lost, Stevenson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 14 consecutive matchups.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Pacific Grove to victory, but perhaps none more so than Savannah Hardy, who put up 17 points and eight rebounds. Hardy is also on a roll when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 50% in the last three games she's played. Liliana Gaona was another key player, putting up 11 points.

The loss was their first on the road , dropping their record down to 16-4. As for Pacific Grove, the win was the 12th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-4.

Stevenson has already played their next contest, a 67-41 victory against Rancho San Juan on the 7th. As for Pacific Grove, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 53-52 defeat against Woodside on the 8th.
