Soccer Game Preview: Huntington Beach vs. Newport Harbor

The Huntington Beach Oilers are taking a road trip to face off against the Newport Harbor Sailors at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Huntington Beach is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 2.6 goals per game this season.

Newport Harbor will be up against a hot Huntington Beach team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Huntington Beach's defense stepped up to hand Marina a 2-0 shutout on Thursday. Given the Oilers' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 31st, while the Vikings are ranked 450th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Sienna McAthy was the driving force of Huntington Beach's attack as she scored both of Huntington Beach's goals, bringing her season total up to 13 goals.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Newport Harbor). They blew past Fountain Valley 8-0 on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Sailors, who have now won eight contests by three goals or more so far this season.

Newport Harbor is also on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-3-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only given up three goals over those ten matchups. As for Huntington Beach, their victory bumped their record up to 13-3-4.

Huntington Beach came up short against Newport Harbor in their previous matchup last Thursday, falling 2-0. Can Huntington Beach avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
