Softball Recap: Skyline Takes a Loss

Skyline extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 23 on Saturday, dropping them down to 0-7. They lost 18-0 to the Lyons Lions. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Falcons of the 16-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in August of 2024.

As for Lyons, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. The result was nothing new for Lyons, who have now won eight matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

For Lyons' part, Gretta Wynja was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Wynja was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Lyons got a massive performance out of Taylor Dickes, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave Dickes a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ava Vasquez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and one double.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Skyline will venture away from home to face off against Mountain View at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Mountain Lions have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.69 runs per game on average), something the Falcons will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Lyons, they are taking a road trip to take on Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
