Football Recap: Emporia Comes Up Short

Emporia played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 41-6 loss at the hands of the Manhattan Indians. The Spartans were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 27-6.

Leading Manhattan to victory were EJ Massenburg and Finn Watson. Massenburg rushed for 141 yards and two TDs while picking up 8.8 yards per carry, while Watson rushed for 39 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The dominant performance also gave Watson a new career-high in rushing touchdowns (two).

Emporia now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Manhattan, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.

Coming up, Emporia will welcome Washburn Rural at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Spartans will need to watch out since the Blues have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. As for Manhattan, they will square off against Northwest at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
