Basketball Recap: Mesquite Takes a Loss

Mesquite had lost five straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped down to 4-2 to make it six. They were outmatched by the Highland Hawks and fell 83-36. The game marked the Wildcats' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Mesquite lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Taj Deloney Taj Deloney, who posted nine points. Braden Miller was another key player, putting up seven points and six boards.

As for Highland, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-2. They have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three contests by 22 points or more this season.

Highland got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Tyson Cutchen out in front who dropped a double-double with 11 points and ten rebounds. The Hawks are undefeated when Cutchen posts ten or more boards, but 1-2 otherwise. Drew Copple also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Mesquite wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, an 82-37 win against Mohave on the 8th. As for Highland, they have also already played their next game, a 76-49 victory against Corona del Sol on the 9th.
