Basketball Recap: Elite Takes a Loss

Elite was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They were dealt a 50-7 loss at the hands of the Mesa Verde Mavericks. If the Eagles were looking for revenge after losing 54-20 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.

When it comes to explaining why Elite lost, don't look at Savannah Barrow. Despite the final result, she posted five points. That was a full 71.4% of Elite's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.

Mesa Verde got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jaiden Alexander out in front who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 18 rebounds. Alexander is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last 28 games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ayvah Cabello, who had 13 points.

Elite's defeat dropped their record down to 1-10. As for Mesa Verde, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-5.

Elite wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 64-7 loss against Marin Academy on the 27th. As for Mesa Verde, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against San Juan at 6:00 p.m. on January 3rd. Mesa Verde's defense has only allowed 28.3 points per game this season, so San Juan's offense will have their work cut out for them.
