Basketball Recap: Conemaugh Township Takes a Loss

Conemaugh Township came up into this matchup off a tough 39-point loss last Friday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Purchase Line Red Dragons by a score of 38-36 on Tuesday. The Indians were probably out for revenge after losing 49-32 to them when the teams met back in January, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Despite the defeat, Conemaugh Township saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Danika Black posted six points and 17 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Black a new career-high in rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Mayce Kordell, who had ten points and five steals.

Even though they lost, Conemaugh Township smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Rylee Mahaffey continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Purchase Line, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 21 boards. Mahaffey's evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points.

Conemaugh Township now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Purchase Line, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.

Conemaugh Township didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 62-39 loss against Cambria Heights on the 12th. As for Purchase Line, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 52-12 defeat against River Valley on the 12th.
