Recap: Soquel Knights vs. Santa Cruz Cardinals
The Soquel Knights lost against the Santa Cruz Cardinals back in February of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. 2024 welcomed Soquel with a 51-25 loss courtesy of Santa Cruz. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Soquel has scored all season.
Santa Cruz's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Natalia Espinosa, who scored five points along with six rebounds and five assists. Another player making a difference was Tiera Oconnor, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.
Soquel's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Santa Cruz, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Soquel will take on Aptos at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Aptos presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Soquel in California (Aptos is ranked 451st, while Soquel is ranked 1111th). As for Santa Cruz, they will head out on the road to face off against Scotts Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Scotts Valley is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home.
