Basketball Recap: Smethport Drops Season-High Score on Cameron County

Smethport scored the most points they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They fell 58-45 to the Cameron County Raiders. The Hubbers' loss continues a trend for the team, making it eight in a row.

Despite the loss, Smethport still got an impressive performance from Payton Neff, who shot 7-for-12 from beyond the arc and almost dropped a double-double on 26 points and nine rebounds. Neff is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Madelyn McKean was another key player, putting up seven points in addition to 11 boards and three steals.

Even though they lost, Smethport smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Smethport's defeat dropped their record down to 1-14. As for Cameron County, they moved to 10-7 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Smethport will take on Galeton at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Smethport is facing Galeton at the right time seeing as Galeton is stuck on a 16-game losing streak. As for Cameron County, they will challenge Coudersport at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Coudersport will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Cameron County surely won't give up without a fight.
