Baseball Recap: Assumption Has No Trouble Against Gresham Community

Assumption got themselves on the board against Gresham Community on Thursday, but Gresham Community never followed suit. They blew past the Wildcats 12-0. Considering the Royals have won nine matchups by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Keegan Cavanaugh made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Assumption is 4-2 when he allows at most two walks, but 6-9 otherwise. Cavanaugh was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on JJ Oswald, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. He has become a key player for Assumption: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three hits, but 5-11 otherwise. Braeden Peters was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Assumption always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .633. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Assumption's win bumped their record up to 10-11. As for Gresham Community, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-6 record this season.
