Two dominant signal callers in Rhys Ragan and Kaine Hill are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Decatur Eagles will head out to square off against the Springtown Porcupines at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Decatur sitting on five straight wins and Springtown on nine.

Decatur is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Western Hills: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Eagles blew the Cougars out of the water with a 70-7 final score. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 193rd, while the Cougars are ranked 874th) , the win last Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Jake Milligan was his usual excellent self, rushing for 157 yards and three TDs on only 11 carries. Those 157 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Jamari Fletcher was in the mix too, providing Decatur with two touchdowns.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Decatur was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 377 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Springtown). They simply couldn't be stopped on Thursday as they easily beat Western Hills 62-0. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Porcupines had established a 55-point advantage.

Springtown's win came from a few key players Decatur will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Pilot Grubis, who picked up 114 receiving yards and three scores. Christian Mendoza did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 78 receiving yards.

Springtown didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Caymon Watson and Zane Morton. Springtown received some extra help from Aiden Adams, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

Decatur's record is now 5-2. As for Springtown, their record now sits at 9-0.

Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Decatur has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 220.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Springtown struggles in that department as they've been averaging 173.6 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Decatur couldn't quite finish off Springtown in their previous matchup back in November of 2024 and fell 41-38. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
