Softball Recap: Monroe Takes a Loss

Monroe extended their losing streak to seven on Thursday, dropping them down to 2-7. They lost 17-2 to the Bainbridge Bearcats. That's two games in a row now that the Golden Tornadoes have lost by exactly 15 runs.

As for Bainbridge, their win ended an eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-7. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Bainbridge's part, Emsleigh Glass made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits (and not a single walk). Glass has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Auburn Culpepper was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Taydem Burris, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Monroe is set to face off against their familiar foe Cairo at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Bainbridge will challenge rival Dougherty at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
