Softball Recap: Monroe Golden Tornadoes vs. Bainbridge Bearcats
Monroe had lost five straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped down to 2-7 to make it six. They came up short against the Bainbridge Bearcats, falling 17-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bearcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 last Tuesday.
Raquel Timley and Glendalys Harvey stepped up to the plate in a big way. Timley went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, while Harvey went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI. Those RBI were Harvey's first of the season.
As for Bainbridge, their win ended an eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-7. With that victory, they brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.
On Bainbridge's side, Emsleigh Glass made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits (and not a single walk). Glass has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Auburn Culpepper was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Taydem Burris was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Monroe didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 15-0 loss against Cairo on the 2nd. As for Bainbridge, they have also already played their next matchup, a 17-1 win against Dougherty on the 2nd.
