Baseball Recap: Lewis County Comes Up Short

Lewis County extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping them down to 7-20-1. They lost 10-3 to the Summertown Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-0 back in April.

As for Summertown, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 19-12 record. With that victory, they brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

For Summertown's part, Aiden Perez made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Perez was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ryder Blackwood, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Summertown's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 11-12 when he doesn't). Cecil Williams was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and three RBI.

Lewis County does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Summertown, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 5-2 defeat against Riverside on the 9th.
