Basketball Recap: Kami Gillis' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Escondido Charter over Corona Del Mar

Escondido Charter saw some tournament action on Friday. They took a 57-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Corona del Mar Sea Kings. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kami Gillis, who posted 15 points in addition to six steals and five boards. What's more, Gillis also racked up two blocks, the most she's had since back in February. Another player making a difference was Harper Mowrey, who had nine points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Escondido Charter's defeat dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Corona del Mar, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season.

Escondido Charter and Corona del Mar could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. Escondido Charter (ranked 339th) will meet Mount Si (ranked 150th) at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Corona del Mar (ranked 262nd) will meet Shadow Hills (ranked 126th) at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.
