Basketball Recap: Madera South Stallions vs. Roosevelt Rough Riders
The Madera South Stallions lost against the Roosevelt Rough Riders back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. Madera South ended up on the wrong side of a rough 58-35 walloping at the hands of the Rough Riders. Madera South has not had much luck with the Rough Riders recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
When it comes to explaining why Madera South lost, one person who can't be blamed is BRIANNAH LORTA. Despite the final result, she scored 16 points. That was a full 45.7% of Madera South's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of JALISSA KIRKPATRICK, who scored six points.
Leading Roosevelt to victory were Nevaeh Reese and Taylor Sutherland. Reese dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Sutherland dropped a double-double on 15 points and 15 rebounds. Sutherland has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played. Another player making a difference was Nyleigh Gregory, who scored 13 points along with three steals.
Madera South dropped their record down to 10-15 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Roosevelt, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Madera South's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Highlanders at 5:30 p.m. on February 2nd. As for Roosevelt, they will challenge the Patriots at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Hoover comes in on six and the Rough Riders on nine.
